Article Follow up on Potential Locations

Occasionally a business that initially seems a likely prospect just doesn’t work out, and for whatever reason, you choose not to install a Refreshment Center.  Perhaps your business is expanding in a different part of town, or maybe you didn’t care for the manager’s attitude—whatever the reason, it’s probably a valid one and you’ll simply find another location for your machines.

But do you notify your Business Builder Representative or the location itself?  You should do both!  It’s important for several reasons.  That location has responded to a mailing and may wonder what happened, and might think your business is unprofessional.  For instance, if a prospective location is just too far away for you to service comfortably, please tell us.  We might be able to find another distributor in that area who may find the location appropriate for their needs. You might even be called about a potential location in your area, courtesy of another distant distributor.

If you don’t intend to install your machines there, then please notify them of your decision. It’s just good business!  As a member of your business community, you would like to have a great reputation for service and professionalism.  That means not only a speedy follow-up after a meeting, but a polite “No, thank you” if it doesn’t work out.  Nobody likes to be left in the dark, so do them the courtesy of contacting them with your decision. Otherwise you could unknowingly earn a negative reputation, which you have not merited.

Imagine two business owners  chatting about your service, and the one you passed on says: “I don’t know what happened.  I was all set to have their service and they just disappeared without telling me why.”  The other owner—who might have a great potential location for you—will have a negative opinion of your service before you even get a chance to meet him!

Let your Business Builder Representative know your decision not to install; then call the location and tell them that you won’t be able to provide service. Be sure to thank them for their time and interest.  This is the professional way to handle your business and maintain your reputation.  Who knows; if that prospective location was too far away, maybe a new branch will open closer to you and become a great location!
